Reflecting back on the impact of Covid-19, many restaurant groups implemented major restructuring plans to ensure survival. Closing underperforming sites, securing funding and implementing alternatives to on-premise consumption were the key priorities. As reopening was allowed, many operators implemented efficiency-related measures including smaller menu’s, fewer ingredients and reduced/optimized hours of operation. As a result, many operators are now more efficient than they were before the pandemic, prepared to be profitable with lower revenues and to run their business with higher flexibility.

The remainder of 2022 will be a balancing act of price management, supply chain mitigation and enduring economic headwinds. While operating excellence and financial strength remain key competitive advantages, recent news announcements point to Authentic Purpose as being table stakes for the Industry.
